House Red
House Red is the loop-based vocal project of Reba Mitchell. Conceptually, this project relies on repetition and restraint to create a place of impenetrable stillness in a world largely defined by oppression based trauma. I use ostinato to create this stillness: to suspend time by eschewing traditional musical changes, narratives, or momentum. When working with existing compositions (rather than original work) I piece out small phrases to layer, disrupting the linear trajectory through which the music was meant to be experienced.
